On Sunday night, my partner Andy and I drove very slowly through a snowstorm to the Happy Dog West, to check out local band Cigarette Playdate. The saturated lighting in the Happy Dog always makes for moody images, which I thought fit Cigarette Playdate's grunge-y shoegaze sound perfectly.
In September I had the pleasure of photographing the Fejes family here in Cleveland. We took photos around their house and amongst nature at the nearby school. Little Federica has so much personality! It was a ball photographing her and her playfulness with her parents.
At the tail end of last month, Andy and Nick of The Commonwealth played a set at the new Heights Music Shop in Cleveland Heights during the annual Heights Music Hop. The set was fantastic, consisting entirely of material from their forthcoming album. And it was a treat to hear the songs played in a more stripped-down instrumentation.
I photographed sunny local band These Knees last month, when they played a stellar set on the outdoor stage at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Thunderstorms threatened on the horizon, which provided some cool, ever-changing lighting.
Bandleader Stephanie Trivison recently launched a new site for her solo work. She has a great recent essay-post about "Advice from a musician who happens to be a woman" – it's an excellent and important read.
First post here on my new blog!
Back in mid-July, I was invited to photograph the annual St. Vitus Parish Summer Picnic at Slovenska Pristava, a Slovenian recreational facility in rural Harpersfield, Ohio. My favorite part of the day was photographing the classical Indian dance group, Shri Kalaa Mandir. I have no skills in describing dance, so I'll let the photos speak for themselves... Suffice to say, the group's expressions, movements and charisma had us all in awe. I'd love to photograph them again sometime.
